Christmas trees recycled

Posted by Rupert Basham on Jan 12, 09 04:10 PM in Useful Info

The Elmbridge borough council recycling team was busy over the weekend as almost 200 christmas trees were collected and turned into soil conditioner.

Residents were invited to bring their trees along to Elmbridge Civic Centre in Esher High Street on Saturday, so that they could be taken away.

In total, 181 trees were collected in four hours, resulting in a combined weight of 3.62 tonnes.

Among those who brought their tree along was Councillor Glenn Dearlove, portfolio holder for the environment.

He said: "This is great news, residents are truly committed to helping the environment. We want to continue making it as easy as possible to recycle and compost more waste for our residents."

Over 13,000 homes have subscribed to the council's garden waste collection, which provides a brown top bin to fill with garden clippings and cuttings.

We'd like to hear from you.
