Television presenter Eamonn Holmes will be switching on the Christmas lights in Weybridge on Wednesday, November 25.

He will be in Queens Road from 5.30pm, when he will turn the lights on and host a raffle.

All money raised will go to Sam Beare hospice Weybridge.

A Christmas market is being held on Saturday, November 14 at St James' Church, in Church Street.

Being held from 10am to 12.30pm, the annual market will be selling a selection of home made cakes, refreshments, cards and gifts.

A Halloween themed lunch is being held on Friday, October 30 at the Weybridge Centre, in Churchfield Place.

Starting at 12 noon and ending at 1pm at the centre for retired people, there will be spooky themed food as well entertainment from singer Paul Carter.

Tickets cost £5.50 for members or £6.50 for non members.

A comedy night is being held at The Hand and Spear, in Old Heath Road, on Wednesday, November 4.

A day of free yoga is being put on at Churchfield Park, in Weybridge, on Saturday (17).

Being held at the park, off Churchfield Road, a free session for adults will take place at 9am and 11am with a session for children aged four to eight being held at 10.15am.

Everyone is welcome and there is no need to book.

Elmbridge council is calling all Indiana Jones wannabes for a half term activity session which will look at what archaeologist's do.

The scheme, named Calling Young Diggers, will be held on Wednesday, October 28, at Elmbridge Museum, in Church Street, Weybridge.

Children aged eight to 12 are being invited to get a hands on experience to explore the world of archaeology, between 10am and 3pm at the museum.

There will be a chance to examine trays of Roman, medieval and pre historic objects and take part in a mini dig, as well as cave painting and pot reconstruction.

Poetry was the dish of the day for students at St Georges College Junior and Senior schools on Thursday (8) as they celebrated national poetry day.

Students at the senior school, in Weybridge Road, Addlestone, Weybridge were treated to a recital by poet John Row who combined rap and ballad poems as well as creating new verses out of words that the students gave him.

Mrs Susan Rowlatt, head of English, said: "This was a stimulating and rewarding experience for all and a great opportunity to make poetry live."

The 2009 photographic competition has been launched by Elmbridge council.

The theme of this years competition is beautiful birds, bugs and butterflies.

Winning entries will be displayed on the council's website and an exhibition of all entries will be held at the Civic Centre, in Portsmouth Road, Esher in November.

Tickets are available for the talent show Elmbridge has Talent, which will be taking place on Saturday, October 24, at Reeds School, in Sandy Lane.

Doors open at 7pm, with the show starting at 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £5 for adults and £3 for under 19's and are available from the Civic Centre, in Portsmouth Road, Esher.

The competition will feature 10 unique acts from the Borough performing a combination of singing, dancing, live music and dramatic readings.
