Poetry was the dish of the day for students at St Georges College Junior and Senior schools on Thursday (8) as they celebrated national poetry day.

Students at the senior school, in Weybridge Road, Addlestone, Weybridge were treated to a recital by poet John Row who combined rap and ballad poems as well as creating new verses out of words that the students gave him.

Mrs Susan Rowlatt, head of English, said: "This was a stimulating and rewarding experience for all and a great opportunity to make poetry live."

At the junior school, in Thames Street, Weybridge, pupils were joined by children's poet Brian Moses.

He performed with the children in the library by using a selection of percussion instruments to accompany his poems.

Mrs Angela Disher, librarian at St Georges College Junior school, said: "I chose Brian Moses as he comes with very good recommendation.

"All the pupils loved listening to his poems and participating in his workshops.

"This has inspired the children in Years 3 and 4 to write their own poetry which is now displayed in the school library."
