This Morning presenter Ruth Langsford braved the cold on Wednesday, November 25 to turn on the Christmas lights in Queens Road, Weybridge.

The television and real life partner of Eamonn Holmes, switched on the lights at 7pm after explaining to the crowd that had gathered that the evening was a fundraising event for the Sam Beare Hospice, Weybridge.

The retailers in the road stayed open later, offered wine and nibbles to their customers and held a raffle to raise money for the hospice, which is based in Church Street.

A Christmas fun run is being held this Sunday (6) starting at the David Lloyd leisure centre in Brooklands Road, Weybridge to raise money for Woking and Sam Beare Hospices.

The 5km run will start at 9am and costs £8 per adult and £5 for under 17's.

There will be a prize for the 1st male, 1st female and best dressed.

All finishers will receive a medal, a mince pie and either a glass of mulled wine or a cup of coffee.

Veteran rocker Roy Wood, radio DJ Mike Read and a Weybridge musician have co-written a Christmas single that could be in the running for the number one slot and will raise money for The Shooting Star Children's Hospice.

Due to the extent of residents concerns, the Seven Hills Road will now only be closed for 12 weeks while a new gas main is fitted.

The original period of seven months was changed by Southern Gas Networks (SGN), who will be undertaking the work, to 12 weeks after spending many hours talking to residents about their traffic fears.

Santa Claus will be in Elmbridge for the next few weeks as he jumps on board the Walton Rotary Club's Christmas float.

The float is taken out annually and driven by Saint Nick across the borough collecting money for charities.

Since last year the float has been worked on by carpenter Bob Busby and David Meineck, husband of the Rotary Club's secretary Margaret.

The work included having the electric cart repainted and having it's roof line lowered.

A public exhibition is being held on Friday, November 27 detailing the plans of the controversial seven month closure of Seven Hills Road.

Being held at the Hilton Hotel, in Seven Hills Road South, from 11am to 8pm, all residents are welcome to view the plans and ask questions about the closure.

The busy road is being closed from Monday, December 28, while Southern Gas Networks replace gas mains and a new main is laid.

Details about diversion routes while the road is closed will also be on display.

A woman believed to be in her 40s was stopped by members of the public from jumping off Sir Richard's Bridge, in Ashley Road, on Saturday (November 21).

The bridge, by Cleves School, Weybridge, goes over the railway tracks.

THE Weybridge Centre is holding a pre Christmas evening of dance on Friday, December 4.

Being held from 7pm to 9.30pm at the centre for retired people, off Churchfield Place, it costs £3 for individuals or £5 for couples.

Everyone is welcome to turn up and dance in a variety of different styles.

Students at Brooklands College were ecstatic last weekend as just under 100 of them graduated after completing foundation degrees, diplomas and teaching courses.

Two ceremonies were held, one on the evening of Friday, November 13 and the second on the morning of Saturday, November 14 for the students who were joined by their friends and relatives, at the college in Heath Road, Weybridge.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a charity collection box was stolen in broad daylight.

A box for the British Heart Foundation, was taken on Wednesday, November 11 at some point between 8am and 3.30pm from the Weybridge Centre, off Churchfield Road.

Two men are believed to have gone into the centre for retired people, asked for a drink and snatched the box, while they were left unattended.
