Santa Claus will be in Elmbridge for the next few weeks as he jumps on board the Walton Rotary Club's Christmas float.

The float is taken out annually and driven by Saint Nick across the borough collecting money for charities.

Since last year the float has been worked on by carpenter Bob Busby and David Meineck, husband of the Rotary Club's secretary Margaret.

The work included having the electric cart repainted and having it's roof line lowered.

The Cobham Junior Netball club is looking for new members, from school years six to 10 to join for the upcoming season.

The club trains at Heathside school, in Brooklands Lane, Weybridge on Sunday mornings from 10am to 11.30am.

The first training session starts on Sunday, September 21 and prospective members are encouraged to turn up where they will be given a membership pack and further details.

Former 1930s racing driver Sammy Davis has come back to Brooklands in the form of a new exhibition.

Containing memorabilia from the journalist and racing driver's life, the exhibit is being held in the Coachmakers' Gallery, at the museum, in Brooklands Road, Weybridge.

Sammy Davis had been a successful driver at Brooklands during the late 1920s and early 1930s and he won four successive victories in the Le Mans 24 hour race.

For happy couple Ben and Kate Taylor their wedding day was already going to be a special, but it was given an added supersonic feel with the presence of Concorde.

The couple, who were married in Windlesham on Saturday, July 25, chose to hold their reception at Brooklands museum in Brooklands Road, Weybridge.

Having got engaged a year before on the airliner, they invited their 110 guests to have afternoon tea under the retired Concorde.

A spokesman for the museum, said: "The location for the reception using the many unusual facilities at Brooklands museum added dramatically to an entertaining and special day for the newly married couple and their guests."

bursary2.JPGA Brooklands college student has been rewarded for his hard work by being given a bursary from Walton Rotary Club.

Daniel Deluce, 17, who is a student at the college in Heath Road, Weybridge, has been given a helping hand as he has not missed a single minute of his level one catering course at the college this past year.

TOUCH Networking - to boost businesses in Elmbridge and Runnymede during the recession - was launched at Noir Bar in Weybridge on Tuesday.

Businessmen and women from nearby areas turned up for the launch at the Heath Road club for an evening of networking.

Staff and students from the engineering department at Brooklands College, in Heath Road, got all revved up as they tested their skills on their very own formula four car.

The car, which is owned by Brooklands college, was taking part in a competition at the Anglesey race circuit in Wales on Saturday June 6 and Sunday June 7.

Residents in the borough are encouraged to get on their bicycles for National Bike Week from Saturday June 13 to Sunday June 21.

Elmbridge Cycle Group is organising the first of many Explore Elmbridge cycle rides on Thursday June 18 at 6:30pm and will be no longer than two hours.

The Promenade choirs are holding a concert on Sunday June 28 to celebrate their first birthday.

Being held at the hall at Cleves school, in Oatlands Avenue, Weybridge, the concert will feature both the Promenade junior choir and the Promenade youth choir.

The concert will start at 7.00pm and tickets cost £5, or £3 with concessions.

The choirs will be performing Musical Pie by Jonathan Willcocks and Liebeslieder Waltzes by Brahms.

A spring concert is being held on Friday June 19, at Weybridge Methodist Church, in Heath Road, to raise money for the Sam Beare Hospice.

Starting at 7.45pm, the concert will feature the Wey Voices, who will be performing a mixed programme of music, including classics such as Moon River, by Andy Williams, and more than a few ABBA tracks.

Entrance is free, but a collection will be taken during the concert, and proceeds will be split between the church's restoration fund, and the hospice, at Weybridge Hospital, in Church Street, which offers specialist palliative care.
