Four students from St George's College are celebrating offers made to them by the prestigious Oxford and Cambridge universities.

The students from the college, in Weybridge Road, Addlestone, Weybridge, spent months taking part in extra classes and sitting mock interviews with their subject teachers.

Cambridge places have been offered to Lydia Burton, 18, who will read English at Robinson College and to Daniel Fisher, 17, to read Engineering at Christ's College.

Ahead of the Surrey Youth Games this summer, Elmbridge council is offering free training sessions for any child who lives or goes to school in the borough.

From March, children will be able to take part in a wide variety of sports including badminton, basketball, boccia, girls cricket, football, hockey, judo, netball, squash, swimming, tag rugby and tennis all for free.

These are called 'Give it a Go!' sessions.

editSunflower-Project-Art-1.jpgSunflower of Weybridge has chosen Brooklands College students to create a new logo for the company.

Nineteen students studying on the college's BTEC National Diploma Art and Design course will use their technical knowledge to help rebrand the local print, copy and art shop.

Hamza Sadique, who own the Oatlands Drive business, said: "I am happy to be able to offer this opportunity to the students, real life experience is invaluable at that age and yet it is hard to come by so I hope it will give them some sort of head start on their careers."

auto3.JPGThe Brooklands race car was taken on on the road on Friday, January 15 for the Autosport International Exhibition.

Over 100 students from the college in Heath Road, Weybridge visited Europe's biggest motorsport exhibition at the NEC Birmingham to show off the car.

Engineering students where given their own stand and while there saw the latest equipment designed specifically for the motorsport industry.

A graphics shop in Weybridge has set college students the task of redesigning its shop front as part of their coursework.

As a new initiative, design students at Brooklands College, in Heath Road, Weybridge will be working on creating a new frontage for Sunflower Graphics.

Not only will the best design be implemented by the shop, but if successful then design students could be redesigning the shop front in Oatlands Drive on an annual basis.

Anyone who has been out of work for six months or longer are being encouraged to take part in a range of free courses at Brooklands College.

As part of an initiative, called Response to Redundancy, the college in Heath Road, Weybridge has been working alongside other organisations, including Job Centre Plus to offer free courses in a number of different skills.

pump2.JPGA brother and sister from St George's College Junior School have won a competition to have their pumpkin soup recipe printed on a restaurant menu.

Isabella, 9, and Isaac,7, Rodrigues-Mendes entered the competition to have their recipe included at the Royal Horticulture Society's The Savill Gardens restaurant in Wick Lane, Englefield Green.

The siblings who attend the school in Thames Street, Weybridge were awarded with a giant pumpkin as well as a meal for four at the restaurant.

They donated the giant pumpkin to the school kitchen so that all their friends could enjoy their delicious pumpkin soup recipe.

They also wish to share their recipe with Elmbridge residents.

Students at Brooklands College were ecstatic last weekend as just under 100 of them graduated after completing foundation degrees, diplomas and teaching courses.

Two ceremonies were held, one on the evening of Friday, November 13 and the second on the morning of Saturday, November 14 for the students who were joined by their friends and relatives, at the college in Heath Road, Weybridge.

cut2.JPGFamilies joined the Mayor of Elmbridge, Councillor James Vickers to officially open a new nursery in Weybridge on Wednesday, August 26.

The Churchfield House nursery and pre school, in Churchfield Road held a fun day to launch the event which included a travelling zoo, face painters and balloon modellers.

The nursery will care for 86 children aged from 3 months to 5 years old in the building, which was formally the adult education centre.

gcse1.JPGThursday (27) morning was the moment of truth for students at Heathside school, as they opened their GCSE results to find out if they had got into the sixth form or college of their choice.

The school, in Brooklands Lane, Weybridge was filled with relieved faces as students can now look forward to starting their AS levels in September.

Charlie Simmonds, 16, is off to Godalming College to study Government and politics, film studies, media studies and music technology.

Charlie, said: "I'm happy with the results, I can now go to college. I'm not sure what I would have done if I didn't get the results I needed. I'm really pleased."
